The Verde Coalition was convened in 2000 by Coalition LA and the CA League of Conservation Voters Education Fund. The Verde Coalition’s mission is to facilitate the creation of small, accessible community green and open spaces in park poor areas in Los Angeles. We facilitate solutions through public policy reform, program creation, community organizing and advocacy. The solutions that we prefer are based on the principle that community participation is a key component in the creation and management of open space.
Verde Coalition Excited to spearhead Los Angeles Redfields to Greenfields Initiative!
Red Fields to Green Fields (R2G) is a national initiative of the City Parks Alliance which seeks to
convert vacant and financially distressed real estate into urban parks. We recognize that the
glut of commercial space in U.S. cities threatens to pull down cash-strapped banks and stall the
economic recovery. We also appreciate the catalytic effect that urban parks can have in
creating jobs, spurring development and improving the environment and health of a city.
